Harlo Peterson struck, killed crossing road in CO

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, (March 18, 2026) — A 75-year-old man, Harlo Peterson, was killed Wednesday morning in a pedestrian crash in Colorado Springs, according to police.

Authorities said the incident occurred just after 6 a.m. near the 5800 block of North Academy Boulevard close to Vickers Drive. Peterson was attempting to cross the roadway mid-block when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The crash remains under investigation.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

CSPD’s Major Crash Team is investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the collision that led to Peterson’s death.

Regardless of fault, pedestrians are at a significant disadvantage in vehicle collisions. While all road users must follow safety rules, drivers bear a heightened responsibility to remain alert and yield when necessary.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, an estimated 7,508 pedestrians were killed in 2022, marking the highest number in four decades.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, noted that such crashes can result from multiple factors, including driver inexperience, failure to follow traffic laws, reckless behavior, unfamiliar road conditions, or impairment.

“Each case must be carefully investigated. Time is critical, and families must ensure that evidence is preserved and reviewed efficiently,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“An attorney can retain expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and evaluate insurance coverage. In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are necessary to determine exactly what happened. These resources help families pursue justice and the compensation they deserve,” added Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Harlo Peterson may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other impacts following a tragic accident.

“In many cases, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing a street, and drivers have a duty to yield,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“It is essential to determine the exact cause of the accident. An attorney can review insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and locate witnesses while guiding the family through the legal process,” Bond added.

“The loss of a loved one in an accident is both tragic and overwhelming. Beyond the emotional toll, families often face significant financial burdens, including lost income and funeral expenses,” she said.
