Hamilton Township collision Kills Scott Ricketts, several injured

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, OH, (May 18, 2026) – A major two-vehicle collision on East U.S. 22 in Hamilton Township resulted in the death of 57-year-old Scott Ricketts of Loveland and left multiple other people injured, according to police.

Authorities said the crash involved two vehicles, including one that was towing a trailer. Officials reported that several occupants became trapped inside the wreckage and required extrication by emergency crews at the scene.

Scott Ricketts was among four individuals transported to area hospitals following the collision. He was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries that same night.

Two additional victims were also transported by helicopter to the same medical facility, while two others were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals with unspecified injuries.

Hamilton Township Police Department officials said the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Numerous factors contribute to the ongoing rise in traffic fatalities, but driver behavior remains central, including speeding, impaired driving involving alcohol or drugs, and distracted driving, particularly cellphone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 lives were lost in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

While authorities continue to examine the circumstances and potential liability in this crash, Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation led by an experienced attorney.

“In addition to the thorough work conducted by law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and text records from any potentially responsible parties,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in cases like these, and families must ensure that all evidence is preserved and properly reviewed,” she added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of the victim may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other losses associated with a fatal collision.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected,” Formica added.
