SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Deputies took a 20-year-old woman to Spokane County Jail Saturday night after she allegedly struck a pedestrian and fled the scene in Spokane Valley.
According to a press release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Haleigh Weinkauf hit a woman crossing the intersection of N. Argonne Road and E. Knox Avenue. The crash happened at around 10 p.m. Witnesses said the victim was crossing with a ‘walk’ signal when Weinkauf’s silver Hyundai Sonata struck her.
Deputies responded to the scene and found the victim suffered no serious injuries. However, she was transported to an area hospital.
Deputies located Weinkauf’s car a short time later parked between two tractor-trailers in a parking lot at 2020 N. Argonne Road.
Weinkauf admitted to deputies she hit the woman with her vehicle but denied fleeing. She claimed she was trying to find a phone charger to call 911. Weinkauf told deputies she was under the influence of alcohol and cannabis.
The hood of Weinkauf’s car showed evidence of the hit-and-run. Weinkauf registered a blood alcohol level of .161.
Deputies recommended felony charges including injury hit-and-run and misdemeanor charges of DUI and possession of a cannabis product under the age of 21.
