Grand Blanc Bicycle Collision Claims Life of Memphis Skye Poole

GRAND BLANC, MI, (May 15, 2026) – Memphis Skye Poole-Bryant, 12, tragically died following a vehicle versus bicycle collision May 15 in Grand Blanc, according to police.

Officers with the Grand Blanc Police Department responded to the crash scene along Perry Road near Curwood Road shortly after 6:30 p.m. Investigators said Memphis was riding her bicycle eastbound when she was struck by a westbound vehicle.

Emergency medical personnel transported Memphis to Hurley Medical Center for treatment. Authorities confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries on May 21.

Family members chose to donate Memphis’ organs following her passing, an act officials said helped save the lives of at least six people.

Police reported that the driver remained at the scene, called 911, and rendered aid until emergency responders arrived. The motorist also voluntarily submitted to a blood-alcohol test, while investigators collected black box data from the vehicle to determine its speed.

Officials said there were no initial signs that excessive speed or alcohol contributed to the crash. The accident remains under investigation by the Grand Blanc Police Department, and the completed case file will be forwarded to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Michigan recorded 183 pedestrian fatalities in 2023, marking a 6% increase from the 173 deaths reported in 2022, according to Michigan State Police. Authorities also reported 2,114 pedestrian-involved crashes in 2023 compared with 1,897 the previous year, representing an 11% increase and the highest pedestrian death total in a decade.

The Governors Highway Safety Association states that one factor contributing to the rise in pedestrian deaths is the growing number of SUVs and pickup trucks on the road, which can make it more difficult for drivers to see pedestrians. Officials noted that pedestrian fatalities nationwide have increased by nearly 60% since 2013.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” added Bond, an experienced pedestrian attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of a victim may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship and income, funeral costs, emotional distress, and pain and suffering following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Formica said.

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can compassionately assist a family through this difficult period while safeguarding their legal rights.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to pressure victims into accepting quick settlements for far less than a case may be worth,” Formica noted. “However, an attorney will strongly advocate on behalf of their client to help ensure they are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
