WOOD RIVER, Ill. — An Alton couple died Thursday morning when a suspect fleeing police struck their vehicle at the intersection of Illinois 143 and Illinois 3.
George Julian and Donna Julian were traveling northbound on Illinois 3 when Miko Martin, 29, of St. Louis, allegedly struck their vehicle while fleeing from police. The impact forced the Julians’ vehicle into a ravine where it caught fire.
Both victims died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Martin was fleeing law enforcement in his vehicle when the collision occurred at the intersection.
Police charged Martin with multiple felonies, including two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths.
Local police departments continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and crash. Authorities did not release any further information.
