SCHLATTERVILLE, Ga. — Georgia State Patrol troopers are investigating a wrong-way accident along U.S. Highway 82 that killed three people. The crash occurred May 19 at 11:10 p.m.
A 93-year-old man driving a 1998 Ford XLT traveled west in the eastbound inside lane, GSP said. He collided with a 2006 Ford Taurus traveling east. The impact sent the Taurus spinning into the outside eastbound lane, where a 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer struck it.
Donavan Spears, 19, was a passenger in the Taurus when the accident occurred. Authorities said he was ejected from the vehicle during impact and pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed the Ford XLT’s driver also died at the scene, while the Taurus driver later died from injuries at a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
Officials did not release the name of a 17-year-old passenger who survived the accident.
