Deanne Ballentine struck by car in Milaca, MSP says

MILACA, MN, (April 08, 2026) – A 65-year-old Florida woman was injured Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Milaca, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The incident occurred at the intersection of First Street East and Minnesota Highway 23 shortly after 7 a.m.

Authorities said a 2020 Kia Soul, driven by a 50-year-old woman, was turning onto First Street from a Kwik Trip parking lot when it struck Deanne Lenore Ballentine, who was walking westbound.

Ballentine, of Dade City, Florida, was transported to M Health Fairview Northland Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

No additional details were immediately released. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Drivers can help prevent pedestrian crashes—where injuries are often severe—by remaining attentive, maintaining safe speeds, and obeying pedestrian right-of-way laws. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), pedestrian fatalities have risen by 78% and now account for 18% of all traffic deaths.

“Having the right resources is critical to properly investigate a pedestrian accident and establish negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond added, “In many situations, pedestrians have the right-of-way when crossing a street or intersection, even outside marked crosswalks. Drivers are required to yield.”

Roadway conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting are also contributing factors that must be carefully reviewed. These steps are essential in helping victims and families pursue justice.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Deanne Lenore Ballentine may have the right to pursue a personal injury suit pending an investigation.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Victims injured in a crash commonly file personal injury claims to address medical expenses, future treatment, lost wages, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

He added, “Insurance companies are often indifferent to the growing costs faced by victims. An experienced attorney can advocate on their behalf, ensuring accountability and fair compensation.”
