SENECA COUNTY, Ohio — A Tiffin man died and two Fostoria residents suffered serious injuries in a head-on accident June 18 along Ohio 18.
The incident occurred around 2:56 p.m. near the intersection with County Road 5 in Loudon Township.
Deanna Sleek, age 59, of Fostoria was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado truck east. That’s when a westbound 2009 Ford Escape SUV crossed the centerline and struck her vehicle head-on.
Sleek wore a seat belt and sustained serious injuries. A medical helicopter transported her to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition. Her passenger, a 52-year-old Fostoria man, also wore a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital and stabilized.
Troopers said the 61-year-old Tiffin man driving the Ford Escape was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation with assistance from local fire and emergency crews. They have not released further information about contributing factors.
