EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The East Peoria Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident on June 2 that left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.
The collision happened at around 10:20 p.m. near Eastside Centre.
According to EPPD, a 32-year-old man was driving an SUV that struck a motorcycle and fled the scene. Authorities later located the vehicle and arrested the driver.
Police said 32-year-old Dalton Johnston admitted to hitting the motorcycle and leaving the scene without offering aid or contacting police. Officers detected alcohol on his breath and observed slurred speech. His blood-alcohol level was determined to be 0.128, above the legal limit.
During questioning, Johnston acknowledged the motorcycle had been stuck under his vehicle. He was charged with aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, both felonies.
The motorcycle’s rider, a 41-year-old man, suffered severe road rash, a broken arm, and a head injury requiring staples. He was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
