Crystal Harris tragically killed in Cleveland 2-vehicle accident

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Authorities are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on May 27 shortly after 12:45 a.m. on Harvard Avenue near E. 131st Street.

Cleveland police said a vehicle crossed the centerline and struck another head-on, causing both to catch fire.

A 20-year-old Cleveland man was eastbound as Harris traveled west in a separate vehicle. His car veered into the opposite lane and struck Harris’ vehicle. The force of the impact ignited both vehicles.

Crystal Harris, 39, suffered fatal injuries in the accident. Officers found her unconscious inside the burning vehicle and provided aid before paramedics arrived. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.

The male driver sustained minor injuries and received medical attention. Officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the accident.

Authorities continue to review factors surrounding the accident and its causes.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Based on data from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, 2018 saw 33,654 fatal motor vehicle accidents in the United States, resulting in 36,560 deaths. This equates to 11.2 fatalities per 100,000 people and 1.13 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Crystal Harris may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
