OCEANA COUNTY, Mich. — A woman died after being struck by a vehicle on July 4 at a popular area attraction.
Police were dispatched to Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo on M-20 in New Era just before 7:30 a.m. They received a report of a woman trapped underneath a car.
Cindy Lewis, 56, had to be extricated from under the vehicle. A 61-year-old New Era woman who works at the farm struck Lewis with her car while the park was closed. The employee reportedly did not see Lewis as she entered the parking lot.
Lewis was co-owner of Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo.
Lewis was transported to a Muskegon hospital, then airlifted to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She succumbed to injuries on Sunday night.
The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said the incident and investigation will be turned over to the Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review of potential charges.
