CHARLOTTE, NC, (April 04, 2026) – A 54-year-old man was killed early Saturday in a pedestrian crash involving two vehicles in Charlotte, police said.
Christopher John Schea was crossing E. Independence Boulevard when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota Camry and then hit by a Toyota Corolla shortly after.
Emergency responders pronounced Schea dead at the scene. Authorities said no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
Each year, pedestrian fatalities continue to rise on roadways across the United States. Many of these incidents are preventable if drivers remain attentive and cautious. The Governors Highway Safety Association reported that approximately 3,304 pedestrians were killed in the first half of 2024 alone.
