Charlotte motorcycle accident kills Pablo De La Torre, CMPD reports

CHARLOTTE, NC, (April 22, 2026) – A 24-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday from injuries he sustained in a collision earlier this week in Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police said the crash occurred around 12:43 a.m. on April 19 at the 500 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard near McCullough Drive. Responding officers located a Toyota Corolla with front-end damage and a heavily damaged BMW motorcycle.

The rider, identified as Pablo Daniel Martinez De La Torre, was found near the motorcycle suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died on April 22.

Preliminary findings indicate the Toyota attempted a left turn onto McCullough Drive and collided with the oncoming motorcycle. Authorities are also evaluating whether speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Investigators reported that the driver of the Toyota was not impaired and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2023, U.S. motorcycle fatalities reached a record 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths, the highest level since 1975, according to NHTSA data. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, improving motorist awareness and roadway safety remains essential.

“Motorcyclists are among the most exposed and vulnerable road users,” said Candice Bond, managing partner of Bond Legal. “Even relatively minor crashes can result in severe or fatal injuries, which is why heightened caution is necessary.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, added that in incidents like this, an independent investigation by a qualified attorney is crucial to help protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“Factors such as blind spots, driver inexperience, and distractions often contribute to these crashes. An attorney can serve as an advocate, helping guide families through a difficult time while working to ensure accountability when traffic laws are violated.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Pablo De La Torre may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims in fatal accidents may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and other related damages.

“The grief and emotional toll after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the hardships families endure, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the progress of the investigation and help ensure the family’s best interests are represented.”
