OKLAHOMA CITY — One person died and two others were hospitalized after a street racing incident Friday night on Shields Boulevard near SE 41st Street.
Oklahoma City Police responded around 10:30 p.m. when two vehicles traveling at high speeds collided. A Chevrolet Equinox backing out of a residence was struck by one of the street racing cars. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn. While rolling, the vehicle struck and killed someone walking on the sidewalk nearby.
Two people inside the overturned vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
Carlos Silva, who was driving a pickup truck, was arrested after the collision.
Police charged Silva with manslaughter in connection with the accident. Investigators have not identified the other racing driver or determined that person’s rolebeyond participating in the race.
The crash remains under investigation.
