SABINE PASS, TX (May 18, 2026) — A 21-year-old man was killed and another passenger critically injured Monday afternoon in a devastating passenger van crash on Highway 87 in Sabine Pass, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. when a Chevrolet Express van traveling northwest crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a southeastbound Prevost passenger bus.
The violent impact forced the van into a roadside ditch. Caleb Burge suffered severe injuries and was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, where he later died.
Rodolfo Garay Jr. was also injured in the collision and remains in critical condition at a hospital, officials said.
Investigators confirmed that five people, including the van driver, lost their lives in the crash. DPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
