AMARILLO, Texas — The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that happened May 18 at 6:40 a.m. on S.W. Coulter Street. Officials said a vehicle struck a pedestrian, leaving one person dead.
Authorities identified the deceased as Brandon Waugh, 34. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Waugh was walking when a white 2025 Buick Enclave traveling southbound left the roadway and hit him. The vehicle continued south and stopped in a gravel driveway.
APD said the driver, a 35-year-old male from Amarillo, was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into Potter County Detention Center on a charge of intoxicated manslaughter.
The investigation remains ongoing. Officials urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
