CHICAGO, IL, (May 17, 2026) – Authorities say an alleged impaired driver was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 290 that claimed the life of 25-year-old Benjamin Farraday early Sunday morning in Chicago.
According to the Illinois State Police, Farraday, a Wheaton resident, was a passenger in a Toyota SUV traveling westbound near Ashland Avenue on the Near West Side at approximately 3 a.m. when it was rear-ended by a GMC SUV. The impact caused a chain-reaction collision involving two additional vehicles.
Farraday was transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries but later died. Officials confirmed that multiple individuals, including the GMC driver, identified as 21-year-old Chicago resident Jose Perez Marin, were also injured in the crash.
Authorities stated that Perez Marin has been charged with aggravated DUI involving death, aggravated DUI with great bodily harm, and aggravated DUI without a valid driver’s license.
The Illinois State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
