Bailee Deems dies after box truck collision in Stringtown on US 69

STRINGTOWN, OH, (April 26, 2026) – An 18-year-old woman was killed Sunday afternoon in a collision involving a box truck in Stringtown, according to police.

Authorities said Bailee Deems was traveling southbound on U.S. 69 when her vehicle was struck by a box truck at approximately 12:40 p.m. The impact forced her car across the center divider and into opposing lanes of traffic.

Deems was transported to Atoka County Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the box truck driver or potential contributing factors. The crash remains under active investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), in 2024, 5,218 large trucks were involved in fatal crashes, reflecting a 30% increase over the past decade.

Crashes involving box trucks can occur due to several factors, including driver inexperience, inadequate vehicle maintenance, excessive speed, and distracted driving.

As authorities continue to investigate the cause and liability in this case, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stressed the importance of an independent investigation conducted by a skilled attorney.

“Alongside the thorough work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review surveillance footage from the crash scene, and obtain phone and text records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Time is critical in cases like this, and it is essential that the victim’s family ensures all evidence is promptly preserved and examined.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Bailee Deems may have the right to file a wrongful death claim. Families who lose a loved one in a tragic accident may pursue compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages.

“The emotional pain and stress following the loss of a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand the hardships families face during such difficult times, and safeguarding their rights is crucial. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are fully protected,” he added.
