Alishia Scott and Tiffany Rutland killed in U.S. 59 Lufkin wreck

Lufkin, TX, (May 25, 2026) – Two women lost their lives following a single-vehicle crash Monday morning south of Lufkin, according to authorities.

Officers with the Lufkin Police Department responded around 9 a.m. to the 5000 block of U.S. 59 after receiving reports of a serious collision involving a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling north toward Lufkin.

Preliminary findings indicate the driver lost control of the SUV, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. One occupant died at the scene, while two others sustained severe injuries.

Emergency crews treated the injured victims before both were airlifted to area hospitals for further medical care. Authorities later confirmed that one of the injured female passengers died from her injuries. A male occupant remains hospitalized.

Police identified the deceased victims as Alishia M. Scott, 43, of Grapeland, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and Tiffany Rutland, 49, of Alto.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lufkin Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

A number of factors continue to contribute to the rise in deadly traffic crashes, including speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving caused by cellphone use. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 8,055 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

As authorities continue to investigate the cause and liability related to this collision, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stressed the importance of an independent investigation by a qualified attorney.

“Beyond the thorough efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can revisit witness statements, review surveillance footage from the area, and secure phone and text records connected to the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in incidents like this, and families must make certain that all evidence is preserved and examined promptly.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of a victim may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families impacted by fatal crashes may be eligible to seek compensation for emotional suffering, loss of companionship, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“The emotional pain and stress following the sudden loss of a loved one can be devastating,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficult challenges families face after these incidents, and protecting their legal rights is extremely important. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help safeguard the family’s best interests throughout the process.”
