Lufkin, TX, (May 25, 2026) – Two women lost their lives following a single-vehicle crash Monday morning south of Lufkin, according to authorities.
Officers with the Lufkin Police Department responded around 9 a.m. to the 5000 block of U.S. 59 after receiving reports of a serious collision involving a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling north toward Lufkin.
Preliminary findings indicate the driver lost control of the SUV, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. One occupant died at the scene, while two others sustained severe injuries.
Emergency crews treated the injured victims before both were airlifted to area hospitals for further medical care. Authorities later confirmed that one of the injured female passengers died from her injuries. A male occupant remains hospitalized.
Police identified the deceased victims as Alishia M. Scott, 43, of Grapeland, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and Tiffany Rutland, 49, of Alto.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lufkin Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
