Nyasia Singletary-Muhammad tragically killed in South Fulton hit-and-run accident

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on May 26 at 10 p.m. on Camp Creek Parkway near Old Fairburn Road. Police said a vehicle struck two women before leaving the scene.

Emergency responders arrived and found one woman lying in the roadway. A fire crew located her unresponsive and confirmed she had succumbed to her injuries.

Nyasia Singletary-Muhammad, 23, suffered fatal injuries after being hit by the vehicle. Officials said she died at the scene despite efforts to save her.

A second woman was also struck and sustained a concussion. Paramedics transported her to Grady Hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities confirmed the driver fled after the accident and has not been identified. Investigators are reviewing area cameras for leads while urging anyone with information to contact South Fulton Police.

HIT-AND-RUN INVESTIGATION NEEDED

In many hit-and-run cases, at-fault drivers believe fleeing the scene will help them evade responsibility for their actions. However, once apprehended, they will face charges.

Candice Bond, a seasoned attorney specializing in hit-and-run accidents, emphasized the necessity of conducting an independent investigation swiftly to safeguard a victim’s rights.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be fully considered. These procedures are necessary for helping someone who has lost a loved one at the hands of a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation that they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of a victim may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for funeral expenses, the loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.
“An incident is considered a wrongful death when either a person or entity commits a wrongful or negligent act resulting in death,” said Bond. “When vehicle accident fatalities result from unsafe driving, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, or driving under the influence, family members are usually left with the option to pursue a civil action against the responsible motorist.”
