Charles Schaubhut involved in three-person injury crash in LaGrange

LAGRANGE, NY — October 30, 2026 An accident at a rest area along the Taconic State Parkway in LaGrange left three people injured Friday afternoon, according to New York State Police.

Authorities reported that an 84-year-old Hudson resident, Charles Schaubhut, was driving a 2014 Subaru when the vehicle struck two pedestrians near the Taste of New York rest area.

The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. at milepost 46.6. Investigators said the Subaru was being maneuvered into a parking space when it suddenly accelerated, crossed a curb and entered the sidewalk, hitting two pedestrians.

The pedestrians, both Hillsdale residents aged 67 and 71, sustained injuries in the collision. Schaubhut was also hurt. Emergency responders transported all three individuals to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.

New York State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Authorities are working to establish what caused the Subaru to accelerate and leave the parking area before striking the pedestrians. Investigators may examine vehicle operation, surrounding conditions, visibility and other relevant evidence to determine the factors that contributed to the collision.

Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable in areas where vehicles enter and exit parking spaces. National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasizes that a thorough investigation is essential in pedestrian accident cases. In cases such as this, reviewing roadway conditions, visibility, lighting and available evidence can help investigators determine whether driver negligence or other circumstances played a role.

Accident Injury News recognizes the importance of examining all contributing factors before reaching conclusions about responsibility.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Individuals injured in a pedestrian collision may have grounds to explore a personal injury claim, depending on the investigation’s findings and the circumstances of the incident.

National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, explains that injury-related claims may involve medical expenses, anticipated future treatment, lost earnings and physical or emotional suffering. In cases such as this, documenting injuries, treatment costs and other financial losses can be important when evaluating potential compensation.

Any legal claim would depend on the available evidence, applicable law and determination of responsibility.
