Kenneth Donahue Killed in Palm Beach County E-Bike Collision

Kenneth Donahue, an 18-year-old resident of Fort Lauderdale, was killed Sunday in a collision involving an electric bicycle and a Chevrolet Corvette in Boca Raton, according to police.

The fatal accident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on West Palmetto Park Road, along the stretch between Interstate 95 and Military Trail in Palm Beach County.

According to authorities, Donahue was riding as a passenger on an electric bicycle when it collided with a Chevrolet Corvette traveling eastbound on West Palmetto Park Road. The Corvette was operated by a 23-year-old man from Boca Raton.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where Donahue was pronounced dead.

The 16-year-old Boca Raton resident operating the e-bike sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The Corvette driver reportedly escaped the collision without injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal crash remain under investigation.

Incident Location

FATAL E-BIKE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Boca Raton Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is examining the circumstances that led to the collision between the electric bicycle and the Corvette. Authorities have not announced any charges or citations in connection with the incident.

Investigators will need to establish how the collision occurred and determine whether any contributing factors played a role. The review may include examining the vehicles, roadway conditions, available evidence and statements from potential witnesses.

National legal analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, emphasizes the importance of determining the precise circumstances behind serious bicycle accidents. In cases such as this, an independent investigation can help preserve important evidence and provide a clearer understanding of the events leading to a fatal collision.

Formica also explains that legal professionals can examine insurance coverage, consult qualified experts, review relevant records and identify witnesses who may have information about the incident.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 310 e-bike-related fatalities were recorded across the United States between 2017 and 2024. Fatalities involving micromobility devices, including e-bikes, e-scooters and hoverboards, increased from five in 2017 to 135 in 2024.

Accident Injury News will continue to follow developments as authorities work to establish the cause of the crash.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the findings of the investigation, Kenneth Donahue’s surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

Under applicable law, eligible family members may seek compensation for losses associated with a fatal accident. Potential damages can include funeral and burial expenses, loss of companionship, emotional suffering and other legally recoverable losses.

National legal analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, notes that families dealing with the sudden loss of a loved one can face considerable emotional and legal challenges. She emphasizes that experienced legal guidance can help surviving relatives understand their rights, navigate the claims process and pursue compensation available under the law.

In cases such as this, reviewing the available evidence and identifying potentially responsible parties are important steps in evaluating any wrongful death claim.
