Mylla Markland dies in Highway 11 rollover crash in Sunset

SUNSET, SC — October 30, 2026 An 84-year-old woman from Irmo lost her life Friday evening after a rollover accident on Highway 11 in Sunset, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).

The victim was identified as Mylla Markland. Authorities reported that she was driving a southbound 2012 Lexus sedan near Roy F. Jones Highway at approximately 7:15 p.m. when the vehicle crossed the centerline.

The Lexus subsequently left the roadway on the left side, collided with an embankment and overturned.

Markland was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision but suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

A passenger traveling in the vehicle sustained critical injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Officials have not publicly released the passenger’s identity.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Pickens County Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation into the fatal collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Determining the circumstances that lead to a fatal roadway accident requires a careful examination of the available evidence. Investigators will work to establish why the Lexus crossed the centerline and what factors may have contributed to the vehicle leaving the highway and overturning.

National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasizes the importance of conducting a thorough and independent investigation following serious crashes.

In cases such as this, an independent review can help preserve important evidence and provide a clearer understanding of the events leading up to the collision. This may involve examining the official accident report, assessing the roadway and vehicle conditions, identifying potential witnesses and consulting qualified accident reconstruction professionals.

Bond also explains that legal professionals can review relevant insurance coverage, examine available records and help families understand the investigative process. Preserving evidence early can be particularly important when determining whether any additional factors contributed to a fatal accident.

Accident Injury News will continue to follow developments as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding Markland’s death.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The passenger who suffered critical injuries in the rollover crash may have legal options available, depending on the findings of the ongoing investigation and the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, explains that individuals seriously injured in motor vehicle collisions may face substantial financial and personal challenges during recovery.

In cases such as this, a personal injury claim may potentially address medical expenses, continuing treatment, rehabilitation costs, lost income, emotional distress and physical pain and suffering, depending on the applicable law and supporting evidence.

Formica also highlights the importance of understanding insurance coverage and evaluating the full extent of an injured person’s losses. Insurance companies may focus on limiting their financial exposure, making it important for injured individuals to understand their rights before resolving a claim.

An experienced attorney can help review accident documentation, assess available insurance benefits and determine whether compensation may be pursued based on the established facts.

The investigation into the Sunset rollover collision remains ongoing.
