Burke Duncan Jr. killed in Lancaster County crash, SCHP confirms.

LANCASTER, SC — October 28, 2026 An 86-year-old man died following a two-vehicle collision Wednesday morning on Pageland Highway in Lancaster County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The victim was identified as Burke Duncan Jr., who was driving a 2000 Buick when the crash occurred near Heyward Hough Road.

According to authorities, a 2012 Honda was traveling eastbound on Pageland Highway when the Buick attempted to enter the roadway from a driveway. The vehicles collided at approximately 11:08 a.m.

Duncan sustained fatal injuries and was transported to MUSC Lancaster, where he later died.

The Honda driver also suffered injuries in the collision and was taken to a hospital by emergency medical personnel. The injuries were reported to be minor.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Determining the events that led to a serious roadway collision requires a thorough review of the available evidence. Investigators may examine vehicle movements, roadway conditions, witness accounts and other relevant details to establish how the crash happened.

National legal analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasizes the importance of conducting an independent investigation in cases such as this. A detailed review can help identify contributing factors that may not be immediately apparent from the initial police report.

Bond also notes that preserving physical evidence, obtaining witness statements, reviewing insurance coverage and consulting qualified accident reconstruction experts can help establish a clearer understanding of the collision.

Accident Injury News recognizes the importance of a comprehensive investigation in determining the circumstances surrounding fatal crashes and identifying any factors that may have contributed to the loss of life.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Following a fatal collision, eligible surviving family members may have legal options depending on the findings of the investigation and the circumstances of the incident.

In cases such as this, a wrongful death claim may allow eligible relatives to pursue compensation for damages associated with their loss, potentially including emotional suffering, loss of companionship and other legally recognized damages.

National legal analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, highlights the importance of protecting the rights of families following a fatal accident. He notes that navigating the aftermath of an unexpected loss can be particularly difficult, making it important for families to understand their available legal options.

Formica also emphasizes that following the official investigation and evaluating the available evidence can help determine whether grounds for a wrongful death action exist.

Accident Injury News stresses that the circumstances of each collision are different, and any potential legal claim depends on the evidence, applicable laws and the outcome of the investigation.
