Davor Barisic killed in Monroe single-vehicle crash, police say

MONROE, NC (October 25, 2026) Davor Barisic, 44, of Indian Trail, died Sunday after a pickup truck carrying three men veered off Old Charlotte Highway and struck multiple trees near Rogers Road in Monroe, according to the Monroe Police Department. A second passenger, Nemanja Ljepojevic, 35, also of Indian Trail, died at the scene. The driver survived but was airlifted to a Charlotte-area hospital in critical condition.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on October 25, 2026. Authorities said the Chevrolet Silverado left the roadway before colliding with several trees. The circumstances that caused the driver to lose control remain under investigation.

The Monroe Police Department’s Traffic Division is examining the collision to establish what led to the fatal incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash on Old Charlotte Highway. Investigators will work to establish why the Chevrolet Silverado departed the roadway and what factors may have contributed to the collision.

In cases such as this, National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, emphasizes the importance of a thorough and independent investigation. Reviewing the official crash report, examining available physical evidence, identifying potential witnesses and assessing relevant insurance coverage can help clarify the circumstances of a collision.

A detailed investigation may also help establish whether roadway conditions, vehicle-related issues, driver actions or other contributing factors played a role. However, the available information does not establish the cause of this crash, and no specific contributing factor should be assumed before investigators complete their work.

Accident Injury News will monitor developments as authorities continue their investigation.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The families of those who died in the collision may have legal options depending on the findings of the investigation and the circumstances surrounding the crash. Under applicable North Carolina law, eligible family members may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim if evidence establishes that another party’s negligence caused the fatal incident.

National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, has highlighted the importance of protecting families’ legal interests following a fatal accident. In cases such as this, understanding the investigative findings, reviewing available insurance coverage and determining whether negligence contributed to the collision may be important steps in evaluating a potential claim.

A wrongful death claim may allow eligible beneficiaries to seek compensation for legally recognized losses, which can include funeral expenses, medical costs related to the fatal injuries, lost income and the loss of a loved one’s services and companionship. The availability and extent of any recovery depend on the facts, applicable law and supporting evidence.
