Clifford Jones killed in Montgomery pedestrian hit-and-run

MONTGOMERY, AL — October 25, 2026 A fatal pedestrian hit-and-run in Montgomery has prompted a police investigation after a vehicle struck 58-year-old Clifford Jones and the driver left the scene, according to authorities.

The collision occurred at approximately 6:21 p.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of McElvy Street, near West Edgemont Avenue and Carver Elementary School, the Montgomery Police Department reported.

Emergency responders located Jones and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not identified the driver or located the vehicle involved in the crash. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Montgomery Police Department.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and the driver’s departure from the scene. Identifying the vehicle and locating witnesses may help investigators establish how the crash occurred and determine who was responsible.

Candice Bond, a managing partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, emphasizes the importance of a thorough, independent investigation in pedestrian hit-and-run cases. In cases such as this, investigators may examine roadway conditions, lighting, visibility, vehicle damage and available witness accounts to reconstruct the events leading to the collision.

Preserving physical evidence and reviewing any available surveillance footage may also help establish the sequence of events. A comprehensive investigation can assist in determining whether negligence contributed to the crash and help protect the legal interests of the victim’s family.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the investigation’s findings, Jones’ surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim against a legally responsible party. Such civil actions may provide compensation for eligible losses, including funeral expenses and the loss of companionship, as permitted under applicable law.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, notes that losing a loved one in a fatal accident can create significant emotional and financial difficulties for surviving relatives.

In cases such as this, families may benefit from understanding their legal options, preserving relevant documentation and reviewing any available insurance coverage. A wrongful death attorney can explain the applicable requirements, help assess potential damages and guide eligible family members through the claims process while the official investigation continues.
