Larry Dennis Ide killed in Nicollet County crash, according to MSP

BELGRADE TOWNSHIP, MN — October 22, 2026 Larry Dennis Ide, 79, of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, died after being struck by a Ford F-250 pickup truck while standing outside his semi-truck along northbound U.S. Route 169 near Highway 14, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The fatal collision occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. near milepost 58, approximately two miles north of Highway 14 in Nicollet County.

According to authorities, Ide was outside the cab of his semi-truck on the right shoulder when a northbound Ford F-250, driven by a 52-year-old man from Texas, struck him. Ide was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup truck driver reportedly escaped the collision without injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain subject to investigation. Authorities have not reported any additional details regarding the events leading up to the collision.

Incident Location

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Determining how the pickup truck struck Ide while he was outside his semi-truck will be an important part of understanding the incident.

Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and national legal analyst, has emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation in fatal collision cases. Such an investigation can help preserve evidence, identify potential witnesses, examine the vehicles involved, and assess whether negligence contributed to the incident.

In cases such as this, investigators may review the official crash report, available surveillance or dashcam footage, vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and witness statements to reconstruct the sequence of events.

A thorough review may also help establish whether the pickup driver’s actions or other contributing circumstances played a role in the collision. Any conclusions regarding responsibility should be based on the available evidence and the findings of the investigation.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Following a fatal roadway collision, the surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim if evidence establishes that another party’s negligence contributed to the death.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has explained that wrongful death claims may arise when negligent or wrongful conduct results in a person’s death. In vehicle-related cases, potential issues can include unsafe driving, distraction, excessive speed, or failure to exercise reasonable care.

In cases such as this, the family may wish to have an attorney review the crash report, available evidence, and applicable insurance policies to determine whether a civil claim is appropriate.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable Minnesota law, recoverable damages may include eligible funeral and burial expenses, certain financial losses, and other legally recognized damages associated with the death.
