Brianna McCall killed in Winston-Salem rollover, police say

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — October 18, 2026. A single-vehicle rollover on U.S. 421 in Winston-Salem claimed the lives of two women Sunday afternoon and left another passenger hospitalized, according to local authorities.

The Winston-Salem Police Department reported that the crash occurred at approximately 2:55 p.m. A 2001 Toyota was traveling southbound on U.S. 421 when its driver reportedly lost control while moving at a high rate of speed.

Investigators said the Toyota struck a median guardrail before leaving the roadway to the right. The vehicle then hit another guardrail and trees before overturning.

All three occupants were ejected during the crash, according to police.

Brianna Dawn McCall, 22, was a passenger in the Toyota and died at the scene. The driver, Nevaeh Angel Hurdley, 20, also died. The third occupant was transported to a hospital with injuries described by authorities as non-life-threatening.

The Winston-Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Authorities are working to establish the circumstances that led to the rollover. The preliminary account indicates that the Toyota was traveling at high speed before the driver lost control, but the full findings of the investigation have not been reported.

In cases such as this, an independent review can help clarify how a collision unfolded. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has emphasized the importance of examining the available evidence when investigating serious motor vehicle accidents.

A thorough review may include the police report, roadway conditions, vehicle damage, witness accounts and any available physical evidence. Accident reconstruction specialists may also help determine the vehicle’s movements before impact. Insurance coverage and other relevant records can be reviewed as part of assessing any potential legal options.

Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department at 336-773-7700, Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800, or text a tip to 336-276-1717.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Following a fatal collision, the family of Brianna Dawn McCall may have the option to explore a wrongful death claim, depending on the investigation’s findings and the applicable law. The availability of such a claim depends on whether legally actionable negligence or other wrongful conduct contributed to the death.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has highlighted the importance of protecting families’ rights after a fatal accident. In cases such as this, legal guidance may help relatives understand the investigation, identify potentially applicable insurance coverage and determine whether a civil claim is available.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, recoverable damages in a wrongful death action may include funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, loss of companionship and other legally recognized losses. The specific damages available depend on the evidence and the governing law.

An attorney can help the family understand the legal process, monitor developments in the official investigation and evaluate potential options without assuming responsibility or liability has already been established.
