Jared Deal injured in Cowlitz County bicycle crash, says WSP

COWLITZ COUNTY, WA — October 13, 2026 A 19-year-old Kelso man was hospitalized after a vehicle struck his bicycle near Lexington Bridge in Cowlitz County, Washington, on Tuesday evening, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The injured bicyclist was identified as Jared Deal, 19, of Kelso.

According to state troopers, the collision occurred shortly before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Sparks Drive and West Side Highway. A 2002 Honda Accord was traveling south on West Side Highway when its driver attempted to turn right and struck Deal, who was riding north on Sparks Drive.

Deal was transported to St. John Medical Center for medical treatment. The extent of his injuries has not been publicly specified.

The Honda was driven by a 64-year-old woman who was cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to the WSP.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Investigators will work to establish the sequence of events leading to the crash and determine whether any contributing factors played a role. Relevant evidence may include vehicle movements, road conditions, witness accounts and the driver’s actions during the turn.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has emphasized the importance of a thorough, independent investigation in bicycle collision cases. In cases such as this, reviewing available evidence promptly can help clarify how the collision occurred and whether negligence contributed to the bicyclist’s injuries.

An investigation may also involve gathering witness statements, examining physical evidence and reviewing applicable insurance coverage. These steps can help establish the facts and preserve information that may become important if a legal claim is pursued.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Depending on the investigation’s findings, Deal may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim. Potential compensation in an eligible case may include medical expenses, future treatment costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and other documented losses.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has highlighted the importance of understanding a victim’s legal options after a serious collision. In cases such as this, an attorney may help an injured person evaluate available evidence, communicate with insurance companies and assess the potential value of a claim.

Any determination of liability or compensation would depend on the available evidence, applicable Washington law and the specific circumstances of the crash. The investigation’s outcome has not been reported, and no conclusion about fault beyond the citation reported by authorities should be assumed.

Accident Injury News will continue to monitor developments as additional verified information becomes available.
