TRENTON, NY — October 8, 2026 Aaron Sosnowski, 56, of the Town of Trenton, died Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking along State Route 12 near Mappa Avenue, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were initially dispatched to the area at approximately 10:15 p.m. following a report of an adult male walking in the roadway. While officers were responding, they received another call reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the same location.
When deputies arrived, they found Sosnowski deceased in the southbound lane of State Route 12.
Preliminary findings indicated that Sosnowski was walking in the middle of the southbound lane when he was hit by a white 2018 GMC utility van traveling in the same direction.
Authorities identified the van’s driver as Tyreke Baxter, 24, of Watertown, New York. According to the sheriff’s office, Baxter stopped following the collision, contacted 911 and remained at the scene until law enforcement arrived.
The collision prompted a temporary closure of State Route 12 while investigators examined the scene and reconstructed the events leading to the fatal incident.
