Argelio Berenguer injured in Red Level crash, according to ALEA.

RED LEVEL, AL — October 5, 2026 A two-vehicle collision on Alabama Highway 55 in Covington County left one person dead and two others injured Monday afternoon, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. approximately five miles north of Red Level. Investigators said a pickup truck collided with an SUV traveling along the highway.

Argelio Berenguer, 35, of Euless, Texas, was driving the SUV when the collision occurred. He suffered injuries in the crash and was transported to Andalusia Health for medical treatment.

His passenger, 37-year-old Yaime Zulueta, also of Euless, was killed in the collision. First responders pronounced her dead at the crash scene. The driver of the pickup, identified as 45-year-old Allen Catrett of McKenzie, was also injured and taken to Andalusia Health.

The circumstances that led to the vehicles colliding have not been fully released. ALEA Highway Patrol troopers remain responsible for determining how the crash occurred and whether any contributing factors can be established.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Authorities are continuing to gather information about the collision, including the circumstances surrounding the impact and the events immediately before it.

National legal analyst Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, has emphasized that a detailed independent investigation can be important in serious roadway crashes. In cases such as this, reviewing the official crash report alone may not provide a complete picture of what happened.

A comprehensive review can include examining available physical evidence, identifying and interviewing witnesses, evaluating the roadway and vehicles involved, and determining whether insurance coverage may apply. Investigators or legal representatives may also examine information concerning the drivers and circumstances surrounding the collision.

Bond has noted that preserving evidence promptly can be particularly important after a serious crash because vehicle damage, roadway conditions, witness recollections and other evidence may become more difficult to evaluate as time passes. Such information can help establish a clearer sequence of events while the official investigation continues.

At this time, ALEA has not announced a final determination regarding the cause of the collision.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

ndividuals who survive a serious motor vehicle collision may have legal options depending on the findings of the investigation, the circumstances of the crash and the applicable insurance coverage.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, has explained that injury-related claims can involve more than the immediate costs associated with emergency treatment. Depending on the circumstances, a claim may address medical expenses already incurred, anticipated medical care, lost income and other losses connected to the injuries.

In cases such as this, the extent of a person’s injuries and the expected recovery process can be important considerations when evaluating potential damages. Documentation such as medical records, treatment expenses and employment information may become relevant when determining the impact of an accident.

Formica has also noted that insurance claims can become complicated when injuries require continuing treatment or when multiple parties and insurance policies are involved. A legal representative may assist with reviewing available coverage, gathering supporting documentation and communicating with insurers.
