Yuang Qin dies after being struck by SUV in Queens near Exit 10

QUEENS, NY (May 17, 2026) — A 76-year-old Brooklyn woman died following a late-night pedestrian collision Sunday on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens, according to the New York Police Department.

Officers from the 110th Precinct responded just before 11 p.m. to reports of a pedestrian struck near Exit 10 by the Long Island Expressway overpass.

Investigators said a 43-year-old man driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander eastbound on the parkway failed to properly navigate the roadway and struck a pedestrian who was walking west in the left lane.

Authorities said the SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers. No arrests have been made.

Emergency responders transported the critically injured pedestrian to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital with severe head and torso injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, hospital staff later pronounced her dead.

The victim was identified as 76-year-old Yuang Qin of Brooklyn.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the fatal crash.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Each year, thousands of pedestrians are killed on roadways across the United States. According to a report from the Governors Highway Safety Association, approximately 3,304 pedestrians were struck and killed on U.S. roads during the first half of 2024.

“Having the proper resources is critical when investigating a pedestrian accident case and establishing negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Roadway conditions, visibility of traffic signs, and street lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be carefully examined during an investigation. These procedures are essential in helping families who have lost a loved one pursue the justice they deserve,” Bond added.

“In some situations, an accident reconstruction team may be needed to determine exactly how the collision occurred. These resources are important in helping clients recover compensation for damages or losses following a crash,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is generally the responsibility of motorists to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The victim’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic accident,” Formica said.

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can compassionately assist a grieving family through this difficult period while helping protect their legal rights.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to pressure victims into accepting quick settlements for far less than a claim may actually be worth,” Formica noted. “An attorney will strongly advocate on behalf of clients to help ensure they are treated fairly and receive proper compensation.”
