Teen Zackery Tucker hurt in fatal Marengo County U.S. 80 collision

MARENGO, AL, (January 06, 2026) — A head-on collision on U.S. 80 near Uniontown Tuesday evening left two people dead and five others injured, including a teenage passenger who remains in critical condition, according to state troopers.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. and involved a Nissan Altima driven by a 16-year-old girl from Faunsdale and a Dodge Ram operated by a 75-year-old man from Pine Hill. Authorities said both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Zackery Tucker, 17, who was riding as a passenger in the Altima, sustained critical injuries and was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment.

Four passengers traveling in the Dodge Ram, including two young children, were taken to area hospitals. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating what caused the vehicles to collide.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Each year, motor vehicle crashes in the United States result in roughly 36,000 fatalities and injure approximately 1.9 million people. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the leading factor in fatal crashes in 2018, followed by impairment due to alcohol, drugs, or medication, as well as lane violations, failure to yield, and distracted driving.

“Investigators routinely assess roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting when evaluating how a collision occurred,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In certain cases, accident reconstruction specialists are called upon to help determine the sequence of events. These investigative measures are critical in assisting injured victims and families seeking financial recovery after a serious crash,” Bond added.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Zackery Tucker may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim stemming from the collision.

“Injured victims often seek personal injury claims to help recover compensation for medical expenses, future treatment needs, lost income, emotional distress, and pain and suffering,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“Insurance carriers may be reluctant to address the full scope of an injured person’s losses. Legal representation can help protect victims’ rights and hold insurers accountable for covering the damages caused by these incidents,” Bond stated.
