Zachary Krug faces charges in Temple Terrace wreck: FHP

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL, (April 30, 2026) – A 6-year-old girl was killed and three other people were seriously injured following a high-speed collision in Temple Terrace involving a former police officer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

Authorities identified the driver as Zachary Krug, a former Temple Terrace police officer.

Investigators said the crash occurred at the intersection of E. Fowler Avenue and North Drive when a Nissan Pathfinder attempted a U-turn into the path of a westbound Ford Explorer driven by Krug. The impact occurred at speeds exceeding 100 mph, sending both vehicles into a roadside ditch.

A 6-year-old girl died at a nearby hospital. Two other children, ages 1 and 8, and the 36-year-old female driver of the Pathfinder were also seriously injured.

Officials confirmed Krug was not responding to an emergency call and was in violation of state law and department policies at the time of the crash. He surrendered to authorities on April 30 after being terminated from the police department and now faces multiple criminal charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding contributed to 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2023, resulting in 11,775 deaths nationwide. Excessive speed significantly increases both the likelihood and severity of crashes, often leading to catastrophic outcomes.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all potential contributing factors that must be carefully evaluated,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are required to determine how the crash occurred. These investigative tools are critical in helping families pursue justice and recover compensation for their losses,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of the deceased child may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families in such cases may seek compensation for emotional suffering, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and other damages.

“The emotional toll of losing a loved one in such a tragic way is unimaginable,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand how devastating these cases are for families, and ensuring their rights are protected is essential. A wrongful death attorney can stay updated on the investigation and help ensure the family’s legal interests are fully represented.”
