TEMPLE TERRACE, FL, (April 30, 2026) – A 6-year-old girl was killed and three other people were seriously injured following a high-speed collision in Temple Terrace involving a former police officer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Authorities identified the driver as Zachary Krug, a former Temple Terrace police officer.
Investigators said the crash occurred at the intersection of E. Fowler Avenue and North Drive when a Nissan Pathfinder attempted a U-turn into the path of a westbound Ford Explorer driven by Krug. The impact occurred at speeds exceeding 100 mph, sending both vehicles into a roadside ditch.
A 6-year-old girl died at a nearby hospital. Two other children, ages 1 and 8, and the 36-year-old female driver of the Pathfinder were also seriously injured.
Officials confirmed Krug was not responding to an emergency call and was in violation of state law and department policies at the time of the crash. He surrendered to authorities on April 30 after being terminated from the police department and now faces multiple criminal charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
