CHP: Zachary Fugate Dead in Downtown LA Multi-Car Crash

LOS ANGELES, CA — June 27, 2026 — A 34-year-old man was fatally injured Saturday morning in a three-vehicle collision at an off-ramp on the Harbor (110) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victim was identified as Zachary Fugate. According to the CHP, the crash took place at approximately 4:30 a.m. at the West Eighth Street exit off the southbound freeway. Fugate was pronounced dead at the scene. A second individual involved in the crash was transported to a nearby hospital; their condition was not immediately available.

The cause of the collision remains under active investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The CHP will release a full report upon completing its investigation into the accident that claimed the life of Mr. Fugate.

In the interim, Candice Bond noted that crashes of this nature require an independent investigation by a reputable law firm to protect critical evidence and uphold the rights of the victim’s family during an incredibly difficult time.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family who has lost a loved one during this difficult time, as well as protect their legal rights and best interests.”

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration paint a sobering picture: approximately 36,000 people are killed and another 1.9 million are injured in motor vehicle crashes across the country each year. The NHTSA identifies speeding as the leading cause of fatal crashes, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to maintain the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The immediate family of Zachary Fugate may have legal standing to file a wrongful death claim in connection with this fatal collision. In such cases, family members are entitled to pursue compensation for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and the profound emotional distress that follows the sudden and tragic loss of a loved one.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A dedicated wrongful death attorney will remain closely engaged with the official investigation and work to ensure that the family’s best interests are never compromised. The relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and the lasting emotional toll that a catastrophic accident leaves behind.”
