ALTO, Texas — A truck ran a stop sign and struck an SUV on May 25 at 10:55 p.m. along Texas 69 near FM-1911. Three people in the SUV were injured.
The SUV’s driver was transported to a nearby hospital, and one passenger was flown to an area medical facility. The truck was traveling at high speed when it hit the SUV, causing severe damage to both vehicles.
Yvette McVey, 55, suffered fatal injuries while receiving treatment at an East Texas hospital. Emergency responders worked to save her, but she was pronounced dead.
Officials identified the truck’s driver as a 21-year-old East Texas man. Police found open alcohol containers inside his vehicle and determined he showed signs of intoxication.
Authorities charged him with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and disregarding a stop sign. His bond was set at $355,000.
Law enforcement continues to investigate the accident and its circumstances.
