Yaritzi Flores-Romero, Melissa Romero-Espinoza killed in Adams Co canal crash

ADAMS, WA, (April 26, 2026) – A Sunday afternoon crash in Adams County resulted in the deaths of three teenage girls and led to the arrest of a 19-year-old driver from Othello, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities identified two of the victims as 15-year-old Yaritzi Flores-Romero and Melissa Romero-Espinoza. Officials said the crash occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Bench Road just south of Othello.

Preliminary findings indicate that a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz sedan driven by Presiliano Perez-Pineda and a Chevrolet Silverado pickup were traveling eastbound when the sedan attempted to pass the truck. During the maneuver, the Mercedes-Benz entered the westbound lane and struck the Silverado on the driver’s side.

The impact forced the pickup off the roadway and into an irrigation canal. Investigators said all three juveniles inside the Silverado were ejected and later found deceased in the water near the vehicle.

An online fundraiser has been created to support the families of the victims.

Perez-Pineda was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of three counts of vehicular homicide and additional charges.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Several factors contribute to rising roadway fatalities, but driver behavior remains a major cause, including speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving, particularly involving mobile devices. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported thousands of fatalities in recent years due to motor vehicle crashes.

While authorities continue to investigate liability in this crash, Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation conducted by experienced counsel.

“In addition to the thorough work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain electronic records such as phone and text data from involved parties,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and it is essential that evidence is preserved and reviewed without delay,” she added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Yaritzi Flores-Romero and Melissa Romero-Espinoza may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering following a catastrophic crash.

“We understand that losing a loved one is both an emotional and financial burden,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “Families who have suffered such a loss due to negligence should seek guidance from a wrongful death attorney to pursue justice.”

“Insurance companies may attempt to minimize claims or deny compensation. An attorney helps ensure victims’ families are protected and treated fairly throughout the process,” Formica added.
