Xavyon Junell Davis struck, killed on I-565 in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, AL, (April 07, 2026) – A 24-year-old man from Austell, Georgia, was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle in Huntsville, authorities said.

According to the Huntsville Police Department, Xavyon Junell Davis was walking along Interstate 565 near mile marker 18, close to Triana Boulevard, when he was hit by a vehicle.

Davis sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the vehicle involved was later located in the 2300 block of Governors Drive, and the driver suffered minor injuries.

No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The Huntsville Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. During its review, authorities will work to determine what led to the vehicle striking and killing Davis.

Despite protections under the law, pedestrians like Davis remain among the most vulnerable road users. Each day, pedestrians are seriously injured or killed by drivers who may ignore traffic signals, drive distracted, or operate vehicles while impaired.

In 2022, there were 345 pedestrian fatalities reported, marking a 12% increase from 307 deaths in 2021, according to official data.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, stated that incidents like this are often linked to negligent driving behaviors such as distraction, speeding, or failure to yield.

“Having the proper resources is essential to thoroughly investigate a pedestrian accident and establish negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Every case requires careful examination. Time is critical, and families must ensure evidence is preserved and reviewed promptly. An attorney can engage expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and evaluate insurance coverage. These steps are vital in helping families seek justice and the compensation they deserve,” added Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“In most cases, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing a street or intersection, whether or not it is marked,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “Drivers have a responsibility to yield to pedestrians at all times.”

Pending the investigation, the family of Xavyon Junell Davis may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic incident.

“Grieving families are often overwhelmed by the legal process designed to protect their rights,” Formica added. “An attorney can provide compassionate guidance during this difficult time and help ensure that the family receives the compensation they are entitled to.”
