Wrong-Way Crash: Carson Williams Hits Ambulance in Colonie

COLONIE, NY, (June 28, 2026) – An ambulance transporting a patient was struck head-on by a wrong-way driver on an Interstate 90 off-ramp in Colonie Sunday night, according to the New York State Police.

The ambulance was traveling east on the Exit 6 off-ramp toward Albany Medical Center at approximately 8:59 p.m. when a vehicle heading in the wrong direction collided with it head-on. The ambulance driver and paramedic sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment. The patient being transported was not injured.

Carson Williams, 25, of Schenectady, was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated and traffic infractions. State Police say additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the New York State Police.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Impaired drivers put everyone on the road at risk, and their reckless choices can devastate lives in an instant.

“Drivers who operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs face criminal charges when their actions result in an accident that injures or kills another person,” explained Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Beyond any criminal proceedings, the victim’s family may also have grounds to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the party responsible,” added Bond, a seasoned DUI accident attorney and analyst for Accident Injury News.

Data from the National Safety Council shows that impaired driving — involving alcohol, drugs, or other substances — is responsible for roughly 10 percent of all fatal car accidents nationwide, making it the second-leading cause of traffic-related deaths in the United States.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, an injured victim may have grounds to file a personal injury claim.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, explained, “Victims injured in a crash frequently pursue personal injury claims to help cover medical expenses, ongoing medical care, lost wages, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often indifferent to the growing financial burden faced by an injured party. That’s where an attorney steps in — we stand up for accident victims every day, holding insurance companies accountable for the harm caused by their policyholders’ mistakes,” he added.
