Woman struck in crosswalk on Farrington Highway in Waianae

WAIANAE, HI (April 07, 2026) – A 57-year-old woman was critically injured Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash while crossing a roadway in Waianae, according to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD).

Authorities said the incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Farrington Highway near Waianae Valley Road. The victim was in a marked crosswalk when an eastbound vehicle struck her and fled the scene.

The woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police are actively searching for the driver involved as the investigation continues.

HIT-AND-RUN INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, yet statistics show that about 11 percent of all crashes involve a hit-and-run driver.

Under the law, any motorist involved in a collision must remain at the scene until authorities arrive. However, data indicates that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute across U.S. roadways. Drivers often flee due to impairment, lack of a valid license, or fear of legal consequences.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run and pedestrian accident attorney, emphasized that a prompt and independent investigation is essential to protect a victim’s rights in these cases.

“Having the proper resources is critical to investigating a hit-and-run accident and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must all be carefully reviewed. These steps are vital to helping victims obtain justice and financial compensation.”

“Time is a crucial factor in cases like this, and it is important that evidence is examined as quickly as possible.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the victim may have grounds to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, noted that the effects of a serious injury can be overwhelming and disruptive to daily life, including employment, finances, and family obligations.

“It is essential for victims to seek legal representation when filing a personal injury claim, as an attorney can handle negotiations with insurance companies,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to settle claims quickly for less than their true value. A skilled attorney will advocate for victims to ensure they are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
