Woman Dies in Cleveland Hit-and-Run Accident, Blair Faces Charges

CLEVELAND, OH, (April 19, 2026) — A woman in her 70s was killed early Sunday morning in a hit-and-run crash in Cleveland, according to local police.

Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 1:12 a.m. near the intersection of Lee Road and Miles Avenue. A Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling northbound at a high rate of speed allegedly ran a red light and struck the pedestrian.

Following the initial collision, the vehicle left the roadway, crashing into a concrete staircase and a metal railing before the driver fled the scene.

Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been publicly released.

Investigators later identified 22-year-old Aniyah Cheyenne Blair, of Maple Heights, as the suspect. Blair has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop after an accident resulting in death.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather additional details.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In many hit-and-run cases, at-fault drivers attempt to evade responsibility by leaving the scene. However, once identified, suspects can and do face serious criminal charges.

Fleeing the scene of a crash is illegal, yet data shows that more than one hit-and-run accident happens every minute across the United States.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), an estimated 7,148 pedestrians were killed on U.S. roadways in 2024, including 128 in Ohio.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” Bond added.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes necessary to help determine exactly what occurred. These resources are essential in helping clients pursue compensation for damages or loss after a crash,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is generally a driver’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The victim’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral costs, and emotional distress following a tragic accident,” Formica said.

An attorney can serve as an advocate, helping guide families through the legal process while ensuring their rights are protected during a difficult time.

“Insurance companies often attempt to push quick settlements that may be far below what a case is worth,” Formica noted. “An attorney will strongly advocate on behalf of their client to ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation.”
