WILSON, NC (March 10, 2026) – A 48-year-old man was tragically killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while changing a tire in Wilson County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the victim as Jesus Isidro Calix Martinez, of Lucama. Investigators said Martinez was on U.S. 301 when he was hit by a passing vehicle and thrown into the highway median.

He was pronounced dead at approximately 7:25 a.m. Officials noted that Martinez was originally from Honduras.

The crash remains under investigation by state troopers.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The Highway Patrol will release a full report after it investigates the accident that took the life of Mr. Martinez.

Meanwhile, Candice Bond stated that accidents such as this one require an independent investigation by a reputable law firm to preserve evidence and protect the rights of the victim’s grieving family.

“In addition to the work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-examine key witnesses, review surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can guide a family through this difficult time while ensuring their legal rights and best interests are protected.”

In 2022, a total of 269 pedestrians died on North Carolina roads. From 2018 to 2022, the state experienced a nearly 20 percent increase in pedestrian fatalities.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Jesus Isidro Calix Martinez may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand what families are forced to endure, and protecting their rights is critical,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are protected. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to pursue damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.”
