TOCCOA, Ga.— Georgia State Patrol troopers are investigating a multi-vehicle accident on April 16 that left one man seriously injured.
The accident happened shortly after noontime at the intersection of Big A Road and U.S. Highway 123. Officials said a 2007 Ford Explorer ran a red light while traveling north on Georgia 17 Alternate. The SUV collided head-on with a 2016 Freightliner truck moving east through the intersection.
Authorities identified 80-year-old Willie Hare as the driver of the Freightliner. Emergency responders airlifted Hare to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. His current condition has not been released.
The force of the impact sent the Explorer into three vehicles that were stopped at the red light: a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, a 2020 Audi Q5, and a 2022 GMC Sierra. The driver of the Audi was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Additional details of the accident were not immediately available.
