William Keith Stoltz linked to Big Lake crash that injured two teens

BIG LAKE, MN (July 1, 2026) — Two teenage boys were injured Wednesday afternoon after a pickup truck collided with the scooter they were riding at an intersection in Big Lake, according to the Minnesota State Patrol (MSP).

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 1:18 p.m. when a westbound Ford F-150, allegedly driven by 80-year-old William Keith Stoltz, collided with a scooter traveling southbound on Minnesota State Highway 25 at Pleasant Avenue.

The two riders, ages 15 and 14, were thrown from the scooter and sustained injuries in the collision. Both boys, whose identities have not been released, were transported to Monticello Hospital for medical treatment.

Investigators said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under review. No additional information regarding possible citations or contributing factors has been released.

The Minnesota State Patrol continues to investigate the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that moped and scooter accidents resulted in an estimated 50,000 emergency department visits and at least 27 fatalities during the last three years.

Sadly, according to the Safety Commission, moped and scooter injuries and fatalities continue to increase. According to Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, collisions involving passenger vehicles are frequently linked to negligent driving behaviors.

Bond stressed that in situations like this, conducting an independent investigation as soon as possible is essential to help safeguard the rights of injured victims.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and a victim must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney will carefully examine what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a client during this difficult time, while vigorously protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The two victims injured in this accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, explained that the emotional and financial burdens following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting nearly every aspect of a victim’s life, including family, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“Although no amount of money can make up for a devastating injury, it is important that a victim is made aware of their rights and what they are entitled to by law,” Formica added. “The injured victim in this collision may be entitled to an injury claim, and they may seek recovery for damages including medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
