West Odessa crash kills Alfredo Acosta Bejarano, DPS says

WEST ODESSA, TX, (April 08, 2026) – A 62-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle crash at a West Odessa intersection, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander traveling southbound on Greenlee Avenue ran a stop sign at West Treva Drive around 6:30 p.m. and collided with a westbound 1999 Acura TL.

A passenger in the Acura, identified as Alfredo Acosta Bejarano of Odessa, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acura also died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Mitsubishi suffered minor injuries and was transported to Medical Center Hospital.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Traffic laws require drivers to stop at all posted stop signs. However, violations still occur and often lead to severe intersection crashes like this one.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, nearly 40 percent of all collisions occur at intersections, frequently due to failure to stop at signals or signs. Contributing factors often include distraction, impatience, or reckless driving.

The Texas Department of Transportation reports that 4,150 people lost their lives in traffic crashes in 2024.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be carefully evaluated,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In some cases, an accident reconstruction team is needed to determine exactly how the crash occurred. These resources are essential for helping families pursue fair compensation,” Bond added, an experienced auto accident attorney.

“Time is critical in these cases, and evidence must be reviewed promptly to ensure accuracy in the investigation.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Alfredo Acosta Bejarano could pursue a wrongful death claim. Families may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic accident.

“The grief after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the emotional toll on families, and ensuring their legal rights are protected is essential. A wrongful death attorney will follow the investigation closely and help safeguard their interests throughout the process.”
