Vladimir Mushenko charged after fatal Dania Beach DUI collision

DANIA BEACH, FL, (July 04, 2026) – Two people were killed and several others were injured in a suspected drunk driving crash on July 4 in Dania Beach, according to authorities.

Investigators said a vehicle was traveling eastbound on East Dania Beach Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it struck a curb. The driver, identified as Vladimir Mushenko, 38, allegedly overcorrected after hitting the curb, lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Two passengers riding in Mushenko’s vehicle suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Authorities said a third passenger remained hospitalized.

Five occupants of the second vehicle were also transported to a hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

Officials reported that Mushenko’s blood alcohol concentration measured 0.197% after he was tested at a hospital. He was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicle homicide.

The crash remains under investigation by the appropriate authorities.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Even when motorists believe they are capable of driving, alcohol or drugs can impair judgment, reaction time, and coordination, greatly increasing the risk of serious or fatal crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 10,850 people were killed annually in drunk-driving crashes between 2012 and 2021.

An independent investigation will be necessary to determine whether any additional contributing factors played a role in the collision, including the results of testing conducted to establish the driver’s blood-alcohol concentration.

“Drunken and drugged drivers are subject to criminal charges following an accident or collision that causes harm or kills another person,” explained Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Separate from criminal charges, the family of a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” Bond added.

“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a victim during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights while working to ensure impaired drivers are held accountable for their reckless conduct,” added Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family members of the victims killed in the crash may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical and funeral expenses, loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“An incident is considered a wrongful death when either a person or entity commits a wrongful or negligent act resulting in a person’s death,” said Stefano Formica, of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“When fatal motor vehicle crashes are caused by unsafe, aggressive, distracted, speeding, or impaired driving, surviving family members often have the legal option to pursue a civil action against the at-fault driver,” Formica added.
