Virginia Yglesias Dead After Redlands Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash

REDLANDS, CA — June 25, 2026 — A 38-year-old Redlands woman has been identified as the victim of a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision that occurred Thursday evening in Redlands, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and Redlands Police Department.

The crash took place at approximately 10 p.m. on the southbound side of Orange Street near Pioneer Avenue. A pickup truck towing a small trailer struck a pedestrian at the location. The victim, identified as Virginia Yglesias of Redlands, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 56-year-old man, remained at the location and contacted police following the collision. Responding officers noted that the driver did not appear to be impaired at the time. His identity has not been released.

The Redlands Police Department has confirmed the incident is an active investigation. No further details regarding the circumstances of the crash or potential contributing factors have been disclosed at this time.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Despite being protected by various laws, pedestrians remain among the most vulnerable road users in the country, frequently injured or killed by motorists who are distracted, impaired, or disregard posted warnings.

California recorded 1,069 pedestrian fatalities in 2023, the highest total in the nation, representing approximately 25 percent of all traffic deaths statewide, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The state has led the country in pedestrian deaths for five consecutive years.

The Governors Highway Safety Association has attributed the recent rise in pedestrian fatalities to dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, impaired driving, and distraction, as well as infrastructure deficiencies that continue to prioritize motor vehicles over those on foot.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, a seasoned pedestrian accident attorney. “Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” added Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal. “An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a pedestrian accident,” said Bond, a national legal analyst with Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Virginia Yglesias may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Formica noted.

An attorney can serve as a compassionate advocate, helping to guide a grieving family through one of the most difficult periods of their lives while protecting their legal rights at every turn.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth,” Formica cautioned. “An attorney, however, will vigorously fight for their client to ensure that they are treated with the respect and full compensation they rightfully deserve.”
