Vincent Mancillas Killed in Highland Park Freeway Crash

HIGHLAND PARK, CA, (Aug. 10, 2026) – A 27-year-old pedestrian was killed Monday night after being struck by multiple vehicles on a Highland Park freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Vincent Mancillas.

CHP officers responding to the scene found Mancillas lying in the No. 2 lane of the northbound Arroyo Seco Parkway (110 Freeway), south of Avenue 60, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Preliminary findings indicate Mancillas was struck by several vehicles; the driver of one of the vehicles involved remained at the scene.

The circumstances that led to Mancillas entering the freeway have not yet been released.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the CHP at 213-744-2331. The investigation is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Pedestrian safety on U.S. roadways has declined significantly in recent years, driven largely by the growing number of oversized vehicles such as SUVs and pickup trucks on the road, road designs that favor speed over safety, and careless driving habits. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 84% of pedestrian fatalities in 2023 took place in urban settings, a sharp rise from 59% in 1975.

“Pedestrians typically have the right of way at intersections or when crossing a street, whether or not they’re in a marked crosswalk, in the majority of cases,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, explained that in incidents like this one, having a skilled attorney conduct an independent investigation is critical to protecting the victim’s rights.

“Access to the right resources makes a real difference in any pedestrian accident investigation — it helps make sure evidence is properly gathered, examined and documented so investigators can determine whether negligence was a factor,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Vincent Mancillas’ family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim for the loss of love and companionship.

“Losing a loved one in an accident brings a level of stress and grief that can feel impossible to manage,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We know firsthand what families go through in these situations, and protecting their rights matters deeply. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation closely and work to safeguard the family’s legal rights and best interests.”
