Victoria Roser Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle in Tumwater

TUMWATER, WA, January 14, 2026 — An elderly woman was killed just before noon Monday after being struck by a vehicle in a Tumwater parking lot, authorities said.

According to police, 86-year-old Victoria Roser of Olympia was hit by a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old man in a grocery store parking lot located at 520 Cleveland Ave. Southeast at approximately 11:47 a.m.

Roser died from blunt force head injuries, according to the Thurston County Coroner. Tumwater police and the Washington State Patrol responded to the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Pedestrian fatalities continue to rise across the United States, many of which are preventable through increased driver awareness and caution. According to a report from the Governors Highway Safety Association, approximately 2,304 pedestrians were struck and killed on U.S. roads during the first half of 2024.

“Having access to the proper investigative resources is critical when examining a pedestrian accident and establishing negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond explained that roadway conditions, visibility issues, and lighting are among several factors that must be carefully reviewed in pedestrian collision cases.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are needed to help determine exactly how a crash occurred,” Bond added. “These resources are essential in assisting clients who have suffered losses and may be entitled to financial compensation,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Victoria Roser may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim following the fatal incident.

“It is almost always the responsibility of a driver to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. “Surviving family members may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral costs, and emotional distress after a tragic accident.”

Formica noted that attorneys can serve as advocates for families by guiding them through the legal process while protecting their rights during a difficult and emotional time.

“Insurance companies often attempt to pressure families into quick settlements that do not reflect the true value of a claim,” Formica said. “An attorney will actively work to ensure families are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
