Victoria Rosales dies after pickup runs stop sign in Odessa TX

ODESSA, TX (May 23, 2026) — An 18-year-old woman, Victoria Rosales, was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in West Odessa, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Investigators said Rosales was a passenger in a Volkswagen Polo traveling westbound on 16th Street around 5:10 a.m. when a Chevrolet Silverado heading north on Tripp Avenue failed to stop at an intersection and struck the right side of the vehicle.

The impact caused both vehicles to be pushed into the southwest corner of the intersection, where they collided with a fence and a utility box.

Rosales, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 39-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Polo also died at the scene. Both occupants were from Mexico.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado sustained minor injuries and was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa for treatment.

Authorities said the crash remains under investigation, with criminal charges pending pending toxicology results.

FATAL TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The DPS said criminal charges remain pending pending toxicology results as the investigation into the crash continues.

Each year, approximately 36,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents across the country. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding remains the leading cause of fatal crashes, followed by alcohol or drug impairment, failure to maintain lane discipline, failure to yield the right of way, and distracted driving.

That is why Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, emphasized the importance of a prompt independent investigation in cases such as this to preserve critical evidence and protect the rights of grieving families.

“As attorneys, our job is to provide both legal information and advice to the families of those who have been killed in an accident,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “We can help protect your rights and prevent your statements to the police and insurance companies from being used against you.”

She added, “An attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide families during this difficult time while vigorously protecting their legal rights and interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Victoria Rosales may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical and funeral expenses, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“An incident is considered a wrongful death when a person or entity commits a negligent or wrongful act resulting in a fatality,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “When fatalities result from unsafe driving, reckless behavior, distraction, or impairment, families are often left with the option to pursue civil action against the responsible party.”
